For 2009 I have chosen the theme Excellence Through Education to reflect my core belief that a commitment to lifelong learning is the most effective vehicle for sustainable success - both professional and personal.
As speakers we are all in the business of education in one form or another. It is my intention this year to ensure that all our members have access to exceptionally high quality professional development and education that will help you to:
- Grow your speaking business
- Be an even more effective educator in your chosen field of expertise
- Reach your goals for 2009
- Excel!
To this end we are bringing you an unparalleled line up of brilliant speakers at our Chapter meetings as well as a number of new initiatives designed to add significant value to your NSAA membership.
Innovations and Initiatives – Something for Everyone!
We recognise that everyone is in a different place in their speaking journey and we want to ensure that we cater for everyone. The initiatives we are implementing in 2009 will provide professional development opportunities for members who are just embarking on their speaking career through to established speakers who have been in the industry for quite a while.
CSP/PM Hubs
Our first innovation will be the introduction of a CSP/PM hub every quarter. This event will be exclusively available to our members who have attained the designation of Certified Speaking Professional or Professional Member. Our CSPs and PMs will be hearing more about this soon.
Quarterly Designation Workshops
To demonstrate our commitment to helping Associate Members accelerate their businesses growth and progress through the designations quickly to become either Full Members or Professional Members, we will be holding regular quarterly designation workshops that will integrate with and augment the excellent content of the Designations Bus created by our Executive Officer Robyn Henderson.
Three Day Intensive Professional Speaker’s Academy
It is amazing to think that until only two years ago Speaker’s Academy was only held once every two years. Now we are planning for three in one year!!! This is truly a measure of the momentum that is being generated in the Professional Speaking Industry in Queensland. We are indeed in the right place at the right time.
We have replaced the previous format of one Saturday every fortnight spread out over two months with this new delivery method of three intensive days. We believe it will make Academy much more accessible, available and convenient for people.

Our Outstanding Chapter Leadership Team
We have a truly talented and high-calibre Chapter Leadership team for 2009. The QLD Executive Team also includes Tony Ryan CSP as Senior Vice President and Dr. Lewe Atkinson Vice President Membership. It was heartening that we had so many volunteers who wanted to join us in serving the Queensland Chapter and more broadly, the fraternity of the speaking industry to which we all belong. This is another measure of the vibrancy of the industry in our state.
Continuing to Improve on What We Already Do Well
In 2009 we will be stepping up our commitment to making Forum work really effectively. Immediate Past President Suzanne Goodchild will be driving this process because we know what a powerful tool Forum can be for helping speakers to grow their business. We will also be continuing our ‘ Meet the New CSPs’ segment in our program but expanding it to include our longstanding CSPs who have so much wisdom to share about the incredible journey of professional speaking.
We will continue to bring you outstanding professional development workshops by experts on important topics.

I do consider it an enormous privilege to be able to serve as the President of the Queensland Chapter at this time. I look forward to getting to know more of you as the year progresses.
